About me

Donna Bailey

was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and was educated at Buchtel High School, and the University of Akron. She moved to New York City in 1971, where she later studied at the Lee Strasberg School of Acting in Greenwich Village, studying with with Ed Kovens, as well as Ernie Martin. She became a professional actress in 1980 for 25 years, performing onstage, in films, and on television. Donna appeared as Ruth in Spike Lee’s Joe’s Bed- Stuy Barbershop, as well as Yvonne in Street Smart. She was a member of AEA, SAG and AFTRA. One of her notable performances was as Ruth in Raisin in the Sun at the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ, and Theatre Virginia in Richmond, Virginia.

My new nonfiction book, I Can Make It There will be published in April of 2024. The book will consist of 15 true stories of unusual experience I’ve had living in New York City. Each story has their own title and can be read in any particular order. Some of these stories have been performed onstage.
